The only way to respond when someone asks you “why do you write strong female characters.“

Forever reblog. Bless you Joss Whedon

I’d feel better if there were a few female writers in there

yeah, same.  strong fictional women are great but i’d rather have recognition for actual women.

between 1991 and 2000, women wrote 14 percent of spec scripts sold and only 9 percent between 2010 and 2012”

so great job to these great writers but i’d rather see more scripts with strong female characters written by women than i would pats on the back for a handful of men

also it concerns me that people on give male writers pats on the back for doing this, as if it’s something that deserves a cookie

good job you’re not a sexist

how about some appreciation for tina fey, leslie dixon (freaky friday, mrs. doubtfire, etc.), robin swicord (matilda, memoirs of a geisha, etc.), kristen smith (legally blond, 10 things i hate about you, she’s the man), elizabeth meriwether (new girl), laeta kalogridis (shutter island, THE UPCOMING BATTLE ALITA MOVIE I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT UNTIL JUST NOW OMG???), diablo cody (juno), and callie khouri (THELMA AND LOUISE HELLOOOOOO)

all of these women have written sOME OF TUMBLR’S FAVORITE MOVIES WITH GREAT FEMALE CHARACTERS

AND YET HOW MANY OF THEM HAVE YOU HEARD OF?

probably just tina fey – and not because of mean girls, huh?
