Always reblog. Everyone needs to see this. Mainly employers.
You’re expected to work 40 hours for full time pay. In many places you must work double that to survive.
In case you didn’t know, that’s pretty much impossible.
And that assumes you can even *get* full-time work. Minimum-wage employers tend to cheap out on offering benefits by hiring a dozen part-timers rather than half a dozen full-timers. So now, you have to find and have the luck to get hired at two to four jobs, and good fucking luck managing to juggle some kind of coherent schedule between them. A lot of retail employers have shitty policies that want even part-timers to have open availability so they can fuck around with your schedule however suits them, meaning that if you tell them you’ve got another job, they will cut your hours down until you’re working so little you end up quitting out of frustration because there’s no point showing up to work 3 hours a week while being expected to make yourself available as close to 24/7 as possible. The game is rigged.
And that’s only to pay rent. It doesn’t say anything about groceries, gas bill, health insurance (because your employer might not even provide anything), car maintenance, car insurance, electricity bill, phone bill so that your boss and family can still talk to you, water so you can bathe…
No, don’t worry, that money will just appear when you need it, right? You have rich parents who will pay for your life, right? Because, GOD FORBID, raising the minimum wage would DESTROY our economy.
