I’M NOT ONE TO BEG FOR NOTES, BUT PLEASE SPREAD THIS POST AROUND, IT’S ACTUALLY INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT AND SERIOUS
You’ve maybe seen this post floating around, from FCKH8, about getting a certain amount of notes to send pro-gay colouring books to Russian families. I’m going to explain why this is a very, very bad idea.
Isn’t this campaign, to a certain extent, dangerous? Do the makers of the colouring book not understand what is going on in Russia? This isn’t a situation in which you can mess with, when you know that people are being beaten up and taken to jail by the FORCES for being part/talking positively of the LGBT+ community. Sending these colouring books could endanger families, more than help them.
First off, kids aren’t the most trustworthy people to trust to keep secrets. In french, we have a saying that goes like this: “La vérité sort de la bouche des enfants,” which roughly translates to “The truth comes out of children’s mouths.” Children babble. Don’t even test me on this. What would be the result of Timmy talking to his friends about his cool new colouring book about gay rights with someone overhearing? Not everybody has the purest intentions and an open mind, as the whole situation has made quite obvious. Not only could the children be in danger of verbal, physical or psychological abuse from X people, but the parents would be in a lot of trouble. And when I mean a lot of trouble, I mean it.
Now another thing is that these colouring books are sent to families without consent. FCKH8 is literally endangering the lives of people all over Russia with total disregard to situations these people may be in, as well as possible mail interceptions, etc, etc. The packaging may be discreet, but that doesn’t mean the risk is totally eliminated. It’s also kind of creepy to know that an american company knows where all the families with kids in Russia live, along with their names.
YOU CAN’T SAY “WE’RE GOING TO BREAK THIS HOMOPHOBIC LAW AND THERE’S NOTHING THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO TO STOP IT”. LOOK AT WHAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS ALREADY DONE. DO YOU THINK IT WON’T ARREST MORE PEOPLE? AS WRONG AS THIS LAW IS, IT IS LAW. BREAKING LAW RESULTS IN JAIL, OR AS THIS SITUATION BRINGS TO LIGHT, WORST.
JUST PLEASE, DON’T REBLOG THAT POST OR SUPPORT THIS CAMPAIGN; IN DOING SO, YOU’RE HURTING MORE THAN YOU’RE HELPING.
This is basically a prime example in which an organization ignores the safety of people in order to get their message across and loses their heads. It’s very gross. Like, with the Internet and all the technology we currently have, do you honestly think that this little “secret” will be kept under wraps by thousands, if not millions of people? It just isn’t possible. There are so many ways this campaign can go awry. If the message hasn’t already reached Russian authorities, then that’s incredibly surprising. Basically, this whole thing is so rickety that a small breath could crumble the foundations of the plan, and endanger not only the russian people, but also FCKH8. I don’t know what could happen to this company, but it surely can’t be good.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP THE PRESENT SITUATION:
- Boycott russian vodka
- Don’t go to the Olympics
- Practise your free speech rights for good. Bring to light what’s happening in Russia in a safe way, for everyone all around.
