Sign the petition: Stop “Leave Sexy at Home”!

I just signed a petition to Jeff Vaughan, Principle: Amend the title of and add a stipulation on the allowance of shorts and tank tops for days when the temperature exceeds 85 degrees for Winston Churchill’s dress code, referred to by staff as “Leave Sexy at Home”.

Hi y’all. It’s really important to me that you sign this. “Leave Sexy at Home” is the name of our school dress code, and the name of the video shown to all incoming freshman on their prep-day. It’s a program that’s exceedingly condescending to teenage girls, and sexualizes the bodies of 14 year olds. The video we are shown every year depicts a boy in a blonde wig dressed “provactively” while several other boys ogle them, and then a staff member coming up to said student and telling them “leave sexy at home!”. This program is specifically targeted at teenage girls.

We live in Texas, which means that during the summer (which, where we live, can start around April or May) temperatures can easily exceed 100° Faherenheit during an average school day. Despite this, teenage girls are not allowed to wear tank tops (vest tops) or shorts more than 6 inches above the knee. By signing this petition, you will help us force the school to amend the title, and allow tank tops and shorts on days where the temperature exceeds 85°F. 

It’s very important that y’all sign this. This won’t just force the school to change the dress code, it will force the school and our community to start taking teenage girls seriously. Please, sign this and spread it around as much as you can. Thanks!
