Ivy League University Will Allow Rapist Who Choked His Victim Back On Campus
Brown University punished a rapist with what amounted to a one-semester suspension for choking and sexually assaulting a fellow student. Lena Sclove, 22, told a crowd of more than 50 students at the Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island, o…Brown University expelled a student for racist verbal abuse (Douglas Hann) but raping another student is not grounds for expulsion.
Petition asking that “Brown requires that anyone found responsible for sexual misconduct be suspended until the person they have assaulted graduates, or until two years have passed (whichever is longer).”
This is absolutely despicable and this is why college sexual assault policies need to be reformed across the board. Confirmed rapists should NEVER be allowed on campus again. Attending these colleges is a privilege not a right, and students are frequently expelled for academic offenses like plagiarism, yet rapists are still allowed to attend. This happened at my school too and it is unacceptable. It makes absolutely no sense to punish rapists with mild academic sanctions. College integrity boards must be required to work with police to prosecute rapists— or if the victim doesn’t wish to press charges, to simply expel the rapist. As it is, prestigious colleges are safe havens for sexual predators.
