Elliot Rodger killed 7 people in a drive-by shooting, vowing to “kill every blonde slut I see” because women rebuffed his advances and he’s still a virgin at age 22. This is what patriarchy looks like, this is what violence against women looks like, this is what male entitlement looks like, and this is why women need feminism.

Men so adamantly believe they are entitled to sex that they will blame women for their short comings instead of looking at who they are. Women’s body are not seen as are own, we belong to men and we have no agency over our choices. A women expressing her right to say “no” to a man’s sexual advances is a blow to his ego and therefore an act of violence, an act that men believe should be punished with equal if not more violence. Turning a man down should not cost us our lives, but it does.
