I don’t honestly mind cynical stories; I just hate pointless darkness. You know, the kind that spawns “what if this optimistic fantasy show is just a dream and in reality blah blah awful thing?” or “realities where anyone even the slightest bit virtuous or kind will be crushed under the boot of a relentless world while only the selfish, wicked and slimy survive, and that’s because good is dumb.”

Basically as far as really dark stuff goes, I have to feel like the world is worth saving-or at least something in the world is worth saving. All the suffering the characters go through has to mean something and happen for a reason, even if they ultimately fail. Showing nothing but the wicked, cruel, cynical side of life is just as unrealistic as making everything light and fluffy.
