In response to the recent JontronShow twitter fiasco…

oh god, i don’t even know where to start with this

1) yes, using OCD to mean “excessively organised” is offensive. OCD is a recognised term for a recognised medical condition, and using to mean excessively organised is offensive, because it trivialises the pain of actual OCD sufferers.

2) i’m not sure if you realise this, but the word “retarded” is actually still considered extremely offensive, because it was recognised as a medical term up until very recently, so you shouldn’t fucking say it. the same applies to the word “spastic”.

3) this post is full of false equivalence bullshit, and you’ve actually recognised that yourself while making your own argument. yeah, the reason people notice OCD is because it’s still ongoing. as in it’s still a used medical term, asshole. language does evolve, but in the case of this particular word, it hasn’t yet, so get over yourself and accept that you can’t say it

4) “And as medical terms are co-opted as slang…” think about this. really think about it. why is it that our everyday insults are so often terms that are/were used to refer to the mentally ill? oh wait, i know, it’s because our society is really fucking ableist

5) you are a self-entitled whiny asshole. get over yourself
