A Respected Institution

ristrettojester:

The night after their last mission before the wedding, as he watches his fiance sleep, Florida decides he’s going to take Reggie’s name.

When he says this the next morning, as they’re preparing to go home, it’s met with a raised eyebrow and a quite suspicious “Why?”

Taking this completely in stride as he brushes through his hair, Butch simply replies that it’s traditional, and that Reggie wouldn’t have taken his if it’d been offered. This earns the Englishman’s reluctant approval, and they return to their regularly scheduled programming.

The wedding is intimate, the honeymoon even more so; the requisite paperwork is submitted not long after they get back, and frankly, Florida hasn’t quit smiling the entire time – not that that’s especially unusual, but it feels a good deal more genuine lately than it usually does. His husband doesn’t bat an eyelash.

When the process is finished at last, when he becomes Butch Feldspar, it’s with this honey-sweet smile that he slips his arms around his partner’s shoulders and breaks the good news. “Well, my darling, it’s official,” he says cheerfully, not missing a beat, “I’ve been deflowered.”

The glee he feels at seeing Wyoming turn a brand new shade of purple borders on malicious.

Reggie doesn’t talk to him for a week.
