remus lupin + tattoos

  • first let’s talk about remus + body image
  • for a rly long time remus has a terrible relationship to his body for obvious reasons
  • because everything about his lycanthropy relates to losing control over his body. there’s the fact that it betrays him completely, that it’s not within his control, that his physical being isn’t his own but rather it’s at the whim of the moon
  • also consider the fact that everything about his body is telling in regards to his lycanthropy: the scars, the way he’s built, the heightened instincts.
  • i think he’d see all of that as being tainted by this thing that disgusts and terrifies him so much
  • so for a long time he hates looking at his body because everything about it reminds him of what he is and what he cannot control
  • but i think that tattoos would provide a way for him to take some ownership over the body he’s in. he’s the one deciding how and where it’s marked. and that’s a positive, empowering thing.
  • it’s so private and personal to him
  • it’s about making his body his own for the first time.
  • he doesn’t have any in places that are visible and he doesn’t have a Whole Lot
  • quotes mostly i think but unfortunately. the only things i can think of are mountain goats lyrics.
  • ah what the hell why not:

  • anyway he gets most of them when he’s young; i have a Thing about the marauders getting matching tattoos upon graduation (“mischief managed”) and that’s the first
  • but i think maybe he got a couple during the lost years, even though it’s such a bad way to spend money but. he likes the way it makes him feel. he likes, once or twice, to do something that anchors him, makes him remember that he’s still going forward, as miserable as it may be.
  • it’s a reminder that he’s still here and even though everything’s shot to hell there’s one thing he can still control.
