Can fandom bring back the concept of a squick

A “squick” was a trope or topic that made the reader deeply uncomfortable (“it grosses me out”/”ew”/”I can’t stand fics where ___”)

Everyone’s squicks were personal and diverse, and it was considered polite to say, “sorry I can’t read this because it squicks me, but you have fun in your corner doing what you doing”

Can we bring that back and reserve “trigger” for MI people who mean things like “if I see this I will have flashbacks and dissociate for hours”*

A “squick” is a personal dislike; a “trigger” is a necessary disability accommodation

* Edited to clarify that there are many types of trauma response, not just flashback/dissociation

ugh, finally. squick was a great word for livejournal-era fandom and i’ve gotten really irritated for people acting like every little thing that grosses them out to be their ‘trigger’.

squick is good, i like squick.

THIS!!!!

The death of the usage of Squick in the great LJ migrations is the single biggest loss in fandom vernacular and language use, I swear to god.

dear god yes. I still use the term and find it fits the situation far better  :U

Wait, people stopped using the term squick?
