speaking as someone who is mentally ill, i think a day like blackout and trans day of visibility would be really beneficial for mentally ill people? and heres why i think so:

  • mentally ill people dont get much visibility in media
  • when we do its because something bad (like murder) happened and the person that caused it was mentally ill (even though non mentally ill people do shit all the time too)
  • mental illness is never spoken about really, so people dont know how to deal with it
  • like my non mentally ill friends dont know how to deal with me because they dont know much about what im going through
  • mentally ill people are so strong for going through everything we’ve gone through
  • yet do we get recognition? no. because we’re barely acknowledged
  • and when we are acknowledged, its usually just about depression and anxiety. there are other mental illnesses.
  • i want mentally ill characters in books and movies that aren’t the villain (i just want to see someone like me)
  • and not just sob stories, i want a bipolar girl, or a boy with bpd meeting dragons or solving mysteries
  • a day spreading not only the selfies of mentally ill people, but posts explaining what different mental illnesses are and resources for mentally ill people would be rlly cool imo

basically, there are so many struggles that come with being mentally ill, and i think we deserve a day recognizing that.

hey non mentally ill people, please reblog this and support mentally ill people by helping us get our own day of recognition please
