On March 19th, 2014, African American student organizations united dressed in all black for what was called “Black Out Day”. Black Out Day symbolized black unity across the campus of Northern Illinois University. The black clothing was not only a symbol of unity, but also represented the movements of the 1960’s and the people that paved the way for us all. “Black Out Day” not only brought together the Black community on the campus of a Predominately White Institution, but reminded the students of African decent we are ONE.
