Alright but the Mayor wanting to rebuild Can Town is actually really sad and really important. Like:
The Mayor is traumatized because he tried to be a leader, but everyone just ended up dying. So Can Town is basically his fantasy world where he didn’t fuck up and where he can actually be a leader. It’s his second chance at proving himself, even if it’s only pretend.
Can Town also represents everything he stands for. It symbolizes how democracy can triumph over tyranny, which he wants to be true, because he saw firsthand how many people died fighting for the Kings.
So by rebuilding Can Town on Earth, the Mayor is redeeming himself in his own eyes. It’s his chance to actually be a leader again. It’s kinda like how it was supposed to be on post-apocalypse Earth: he’s going to rebuild civilization and maintain peace and order because he feels like he has to.
