Ok, but you don’t need a pastor to be married… It’s still legal, and you can still have a ceremony, it’s just that religious officials can refuse to officiate.
Which, yes is a total dick move (but were we really expecting any less?) but it does NOT mean that anyone has lost the right marriage.
Yes important distinction there and as much of a dick move as it is, I actually agree with this rulling only beacause America is also a place that offers religious freedom (in thory at least, but thats a topic for another time).
This also helps alleviate the supposed “religious persecution” that would also crop up if churches where forced to officiate weddings they didn’t approve of.
Yeah, and clergy are still allowed to officiate- like the Episcopalian Church voted to allow gay marriages today.
So… It’s a dick move, but this is a dumbass website taking it as a huge victory when it doesn’t really mean anything.
