what are problems singaporean women face today?

angryanticolonialist:

i rly don’t want to write a long essay so like

  • marital rape is not legally rape in singapore (termed the “marital rape exception”)
  • section 157(D) of our evidence act encourages lawyers to discredit a sexual assault victim through her sexual history/ “immoral character”
  • sex education in schools is very fucked up and sexist
  • 18 female members of parliament out of 84 (iirc but either way the male MPs staggeringly outnumber female MPs)
  • migrant workers are often underpaid, abused, silenced and provided with no legal recourse
  • non cis/het women are not at all included in the “mainstream” feminist movement or anywhere at all really
  • divorcees are shunned by their families & ppl around them (same goes for single mothers)
  • again, divorcees have trouble w/ finding a place to live due to hdb regulations

off the top of my head at least (gunpowder-tea princewenyuan bepsifucker9000 if yall have anything to add?)
