did you guys know avocado means testicle in aztec

Yes!

I think this is hilarious, because of…convergent language evolution I guess?  In a lot of romance languages, the word for avocado and the word for attorney resemble each other strongly – in french they’re actually homonyms, avocate.  Of course the lawyer word comes from ad-vocare – to speak for (in english, advocate).  So unrelated.

BUT the practice of law is independently associated with testicles!  The reason testimony is so named is because witnesses were expected to swear upon something really important to them.

So we get:

“testicle” –> aguacatl –> avocate <– advocate <– testify <– “testicle”

and I think that’s beautiful.

This is the best etymology ever
