Its not really stated, but strongly implied in my season 3:  Hello, My Name Is Andrew. tucker says his first name is

Lavernius. and when church asks if he’s black Tucker replies ‘does it matter?’ then latter Andy says “Explosive American”  and Tucker takes offence.I think the next episode says Caboose says something about Tex then says Tucker is the other black one, and the only other time i think its implied is when Tex beats the teleportation stuff off Tucker Sarge says ‘she beat the black off of you.” and he calls sarge Racist.

I thought Tucker actually said he was black? I’m pretty sure when he told Wash his first name, Wash asked if he was black, and he said yeah, does it matter?

You’re probably remembering a fanfic, dear, there was never actually a point where Wash and Tucker introduced themselves to one another.

Church: “Wait, are you black?”
Tucker: “Does it matter?”
Church: “No, I just figured it’s something I should have picked up on after all this time…”
Tucker: “You know what else you should have picked up on? My fucking first name!”

Caboose: “Andy prefers the term ‘explosive American’.”
Tucker: “Are you makin fun of me?!”

Caboose: “The black one is Tex, and the other black one is Tucker.”

Sarge: “Wow, knocked the black right off ya.”
Tucker: “That’s racist!”

Those are all the scenes I can think of, and I always figured it was more or less confirmed.

Caboose: The black one is Tex and the other black one is Tucker.

Also, this is more background information from the DVDs, but Season 3 DVD specified that his hometown was Detroit, which is like 80% black people. So even if we barred all the in-series stuff, that’s a 4/5 chance.
