for me the biggest unsolved mystery of the world is whether or not My Immortal was a trollfic or a legitimate fanfiction that someone sat down and wrote.
#see like on the surface this question isn’t that interesting#if you’ve just read my immortal and know nothing else about the author you might very well assume it was a one off troll#but the author had several active accounts#that were updated and active for years before and after my immortal was published#with p consistent activity too#other than how laughably terrible the fic is#we have no hard evidence to prove it was a troll#if they were a troll they were EXTREMELY dedicated#to an extent where it’s almost not even trolling bc trolling by nature is about immediate gratification and attention#my immortal was either written by an extremely dedicated troll who went in for the long con#or …. possibly more frighteningly…. an actual person#we may never know#yet we struggle on
#either way – it’s become immortalized in internet and fandom culture#can u imagine if it stands the test of time#does that or does that not make it a success?#either way it’s incredible#my immortal#truly an amazing feat regardless of authorial intent
