Underappreciated things about original book!Dracula: turns up in a giant fake beard to pick Jonathan up, claiming to be a coachman working for himself, for no particular reason. Despite having red eyes, visibly sharp teeth, superhuman strength, and being the only person Jonathan meets in the entire country who speaks German fluently.

Jonathan still falls for this.

Underappreciated Drac Facts, Part 2: reads train schedules for fun.

Underappreciated Drac Facts, Part 3: after eating the entire crew of the ship he was taking to England, turns into a wolf and jumps off the ship as it hits the shore. The entire town the ship crashed in immediately decides they need to adopt the poor doggo, and are very sad no one can find it.

Underappreciated Drac Facts, Part 4: apparently bit Lucy in the same tiny fang holes every time. How long did he waste every night lining that up exactly right? Is that why it took him so long to kill her?

Bonus underappreciated Dracula (the book in general) fact 1: Van Helsing makes Lucy a wreathe/necklace of garlic flowers. I am not sure if the author was aware that garlic flowers look like Koosh balls on stalks.

Bonus underappreciated Dracula (the book in general) fact 2: Van Helsing claims the River Lethe and the Fountain of Youth smell like garlic.

Underappreciated Drac Facts, Part 5: mind-controls a wolf out of the zoo to have it headbutt a hole in Lucy’s window rather than doing… literally anything else, starting with “taking a break to chew on one of the thousands of other nubile young women he now has access to” and going on to such complex plans as “grab a shovel out of the tool shed.”

Underappreciated Drac Facts, Part 6: when they’ve got Lucy’s window sealed shut and covered in garlic and are sitting up with her while she sleeps, he spends literally all night every night flapping against her window in bat form like a moth flying into a porch light.
