NO SERIOUSLY THO
THIS IS MY LIFE
THIS IS MY LIFE CONDENSED INTO A COMIC STRIP
True story.
lol y’all actin’ like this is something to be proud of
They think it’s fun to look for something wrong with literally everything they want to enjoy
they think it makes them good
Gosh, yeah, it’s so FUN. I just LOVE the ongoing realization that the vast majority of media that I consume is sexist, racist, etc. If only I was better at sticking my head in the sand and playing apologist for media industries that are run primarily by men who, at best, don’t give a shit about me (or any other members of marginalized groups) or, at worst, are actively doing their best to exploit or otherwise oppress me (and marginalized groups in general) in order to make money.
Honestly, there’s no “looking" about it. If you have any kind of firm grasp on reality and even a modicum of media literacy, you too can identify all the horrible shit that’s so goddamn pervasive in our media that we almost literally can’t watch anything without noticing it.
Cory and I call this “emerging from the cave.“ If you live your entire life in a cave, darkness is all you know. Your perception of the world is very small. And you may be content with that, because you have no reference point. However, if one day you leave the cave, you discover so many new things. Light, color, wind, rain – and if you return to the cave, it will never be the same to you. You will always know that there is an entirely new realm of experience and perception outside of your small world.
So really, you can never return to the cave. Not really.
And maybe that’s a good thing. Because that means that you can be part of making something better.
