Since I haven’t seen anyone talk about this before: it is 100% okay to self-diagnose as intersex. Most doctors lie to their intersex patients and say that they aren’t intersex even when they are, so a lot of the time they withhold that fact from you when and if you see them or talk to them about it. If something seems different from what’s considering “normal”(/non-intersex) re: your body, genitals, hormone production, secondary sex characteristics, etc. + you’ve looked up your symptoms and done research and you come to the conclusion that you’re probably intersex, it’s okay to call yourself intersex. Self-diagnosis can aid you in getting proper treatment if you need it, but it can also help keep you away from facing the medical abuse that is so prevalent in our community. Statistically we are told that 1 in 1500-2000 babies is intersex, but that number is actually closer to 1 in 40—so if you think that you are intersex there’s a high chance that you actually are. Don’t be afraid to question these things about yourself. Finding out that I’m intersex literally answered so many questions for me and if it can help other people answer the same questions about themselves and their lives then self-diagnosing shouldn’t be condemned as horrible or wrong because the only people who that helps is the doctors who want to eradicate any and all intersex people and isolate us from our own identity and other people like us.

(This goes without saying but this does not mean that I support people who fetishize being intersex or trans/nb people who think that they can call themselves intersex on the basis of being trans/nb alone or people who think being intersex is “radical” and so want to claim our experiences—this is for people who think they’re actually intersex and are looking for answers to whether or not they are.)
