Many states engage in voter suppression experience late-term issues with voter lists. Even if you registered to vote, checked your registration three times before heading to the polling place, stood in line, and handed over your ID, you still may be told that you are not actually registered to vote. 

Poll workers may turn you away or ask for more documentation. If you can find them, bring all of the items in bold and at least two of the ones not bolded:

  • Valid Driver’s license or learner’s permit (with your full name and current address)
  • Birth certificate
  • Valid passport
  • Voter registration ID
  • Two bills that you’ve paid at your current address (cable, energy, water, rent, mortgage, etc – any bill with your full name and address on it)
  • Valid state-issued ID (WITH A PHOTO!)
  • Valid military ID
  • Valid Library card
  • Proof of voter registration
  • Student ID (some states will not take this)
  • Valid Handgun Permit
  • Valid Hunting or Fishing Permit
  • Proof of name change (if applicable)
  • Recent paycheck (if applicable)
  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Bank statement
  • Employee ID Card (if your employer provides you one)
  • Health insurance or Social Security card
  • Tribal ID
