Dirk and Dave hang out a lot in the new universe. They binge-watch SBAHJ movovies, visit the remains of their home city and talk about their experiences. They walk by a supermarket and Dave’s like, “bro left me here a few times,” and Dirk is like, “Fuck, I used to swim down to this supermarket foraging for supplies and canned foods.”
Dave takes on Paleontology, digging up not only dinosaurs but also ancient human stuff and Dirk helps him on expeditions. Dirk creates his own versions of rump-loving chat bots. Any time he wants to do something too complicated and self-awareness-inducing to their code, Dave’s always there to tell him to dial it back.
They invent their own sport and call it “Sporntsball” filled with complicated esoteric rules, terms and gameplay that basically makes no sense. Annual tournaments are held in Can Town alongside Roxy’s weird wooden horse riding magical SPORTS game.
They help each other make movies and reinstate their own Hopywoodoo which is a mishmash of SBAHJ-style nonsense and puppet snuff/porn. Jake loves all of them. Their terribleness inspires others to make better stuff and Karkat takes up crappy romcom screenwriting out of spite. Jake and Dave love all of them.
Karkat initially can’t stand Dirk. He gets angry any time Dave spends a lot of time with him and absolutely refuses any invitations to join them. He briefly pursues a kismesitude with Dirk until he realizes his black feelings stem from simple jealousy rather than a true rivalry. They eventually become friends even if Karkat’s still a bit jealous of that strange ironic humor wavelength Dirk and Dave share.
