The Human Rights Commission has investigated the conditions of children living in detention and found 233 recorded assaults on children, 33 reported incidents of sexual assault, and 128 incidents of children self harming. Tony Abbott then said the Human Rights Commission should congratulate Scott Morrison for his contributions to human rights. That’s right. He told them to congratulate Morrison.
He also said that the Human Rights Commission should be ashamed of itself and called it a blatant political assault on his government. He cited the lack of investigation into Labor’s detention centres… despite the fact that they were investigating while Labor was in power. There’s no excuse.
On whether he felt guilt over the horrific findings he said “none whatsoever.”
I try to write political satire. I try to make light of horrific things because otherwise this government is a depressing 3 year long stain on our country’s history. I try so hard to make jokes about the abuse of asylum seekers at the expense of our government over and over but it’s hard to keep doing it. How do I keep thinking of some new way to call Morrison/Abbott (and now Dutton) an inhuman idiot when it just gets more and more depressing? I can’t make fun of this. This is too horrible.
This is disgusting. Instead of apologising for the sexual assault of children, the horrific living conditions, the abuse, the human rights violations, the self harm and mental health problems of children (and that’s just one small element of the asylum seeker issue) he BLAMES LABOR AND SHAMES THE PEOPLE WHO POINTED OUT HE DID SOMETHING WRONG.
He is evil.
I cannot believe I could ever be so disgusted in an Australian government. Am I defending Labor’s asylum seeker policy? No. Their policy is irrelevant right now. You do not absolve yourself from blame by saying someone else did something wrong. You need to apologise. You need to try to do better. This government’s only tactic is to try and make people believe they are the lesser of two evils because they have no ability to prove they are actually worthwhile or competent. That is the state of our government right now: a squabbling unsympathetic child who’d rather attack everyone else than admit they’re terrible or do anything about it. Abbott does not show remorse. His government has endeavoured to dehumanise and destroy the poor people who try to come to this country to escape death and abuse only to discover a 3×2.5 metre prison with poor medical care and an environment of fear and abuse with no idea when they’ll be processed.
This is not OK. Let’s get rid of the government in the next election and never let them back in. They don’t deserve power.
