varterral:

know your fucking rights

it is completely legal for you to film/photograph a police officer in public, no matter what state you’re in. this is a first amendment right.

a police officer may not confiscate, hold, or even look at your footage without a warrant. demand one. that is your right as a citizen

police do not have a right to delete your footage or photographs. this is evidence tampering and it is a felony. they cannot take your sd card/camera. this is obstruction and theft and it is completely illegal.

you can be ordered to cease and desist if you are legitimately tampering with a police officer’s investigation. demand to know why.

if you are stopped, immediately ask if you are free to go. if the officer says ‘no’, it is a detention and you have the right to ask what crime you are committing or what crime the officer has probable cause to believe that you have or will commit. this is required for detention.

do not physically resist an officer. it is now clear that this begets violence and arrest. if they put their hands on you, this is assault. take note.

know your rights.
