hey like… youtubers… dont care about you
this applies to celebrities too ofc but theres a very specific kind of fixation that people develop with youtubers, i guess bc theyre not quite “celebrities”, there’s most often this social aspect of youtubers and streamers (playing video games with friends, interacting with a live stream of viewers, addressing their audience directly) that doesnt really happen with celebrities and i think it makes it easier esp for young people to become attached to their favorite lets player, theyre more accessible and relatable than movie stars. its an interesting phenomenon to me honestly and a very new and modern one but its scary and frustrating when people rabidly come to their defense when they do something shitty. they dont know u, the most meaningful interaction theyre gonna have with you is making bank off your sweet clicks & views
i think this applies to tumblr too… every so often i’ll have a brief conversation with a follower and then find out later that i accidentally made them feel bad or intimidated them without meaning to because they thought i wasn’t being friendly enough, since from their perspective, having followed me for months or even years, i’m an acquaintance of theirs, but to me they’re a complete stranger
