So John basically kept Terezi from lacerating a Scalemate plushy. This may seem totally inconsequential until you start thinking about the ripple effect. John just invaded Alternia and changed Terezi’s timeline before she and the others ever entered their session. Here are some possible Short-Term and Long-Term consequences.
John warped to Terezi’s “Official” Introduction.
It’s at this point that she’s LARPing the trial of Lemonsnout. As she’s preparing for her big session, there’s a key element to her role play.
The Witness. Now since the only person who could have actually done this was Terezi herself, we actually come to a point RIGHT BEFORE this happens.

The Scalemate being framed is not the Witness, but LemonSnout! Terezi is in the process of setting up this whole elaborate ploy to hang the Senator. The instructions to John…
Prevent her from doing that!
By rescuing the Witness, it throws EVERYTHING that Terezi does during and after the trial out of whack. For starters…
She never flips the coin.
And Lemonsnout is not hanged. In a short term sense, this is essentially John preventing the demise of Lemonsnout. But on closer examination, he may just have saved someone else too.
As we can see:
With John’s windy sneaking skills, he has rescued the Witness, leaving Terezi spending time looking for her missing Scalemate.
It confuses and bothers her how she could misplace someone like that. She starts searching for clues since her attention is now shifted from LARPing to figuring out what just happened.
It takes her to the window where she sniffs for clues.
Literally.
Now compare to what happened the first time around:
Right after she was done framing and sentencing Lemonsnout, she then adjourns in her usual manner, picks up her cane, and then…
BEGINS RECRUITING FOR THE ALTERNIAN SGRUB SESSION! By distracting her from her LARP, John has changed events so that Terezi doesn’t necessarily do this, or at least, not in the same timely manner as we may suppose.

The conversation where she invites Nepeta to join the SGRUB session doesn’t happen, or doesn’t happen right away. Granted, given the causality of events, chances are that Nepeta is still going to join the session one way or another even if this conversation doesn’t happen.
But you know what could happen?
SHE COULD LIVE!
So why do I think this could make Nepeta important? I think so because of what John said:
