with steven universe cosplay revving up to be a big thing in the coming cons, a piece of advice from your friends who survived 2011-12 homestuck con hell: SEAL YOUR GOD DAMN BODY PAINT

some more advice from a survivor of the homestucking years: IF YOU ARE COSPLAYING A GEM THAT REQUIRES YOU TO PAINT MOST OF YOUR BODY (amethyst, peridot, lapis, etc) DONT FUCKING TOUCH PEOPLE WITHOUT PERMISSION BECAUSE IF YOU GET YOUR FUCKING BODY PAINT ALL OVER THEIR COSPLAYS THAT THEY PUT SO MUCH HEART INTO, YOU’LL NOT ONLY FEEL BAD BUT YOU WILL HAVE RUINED MANY ASPECTS OF THE CONVENTION FOR THE PEOPLE YOU TOUCHED. and also remember, PLEASE don’t give the SU fandom the same reputation that the homestuck fandom had!! please, for all of us 🙁

Y’know what, why not. People laughed when I joked about this but Steven Universe cosplayers take homestuck tutorials to your advantage. People laugh when I said the cute new babs were learning to spread paint but I was so right. We were right. Be careful.

BE SAFE. First time painting?? Don’t know what to do? LOOK UP HOMESTUCK TUTORIALS. We have ben nye, we have snazzaro, we have krylon, we have everything. It may be in grey but the techniques are the same and so is the sealing. Use everything of homestuck to your advantages. Afraid of contouring: Homestuck tutorial. Unsure how to do your eyebrows: Bam hs tuts. Seriously just a tiny bit of searching can make your beautiful cosplay that much more A+. That much more safe. And hell first time out in a con and nervous about your paint anyway?

Just like juleyan said, smile but don’t touch. Seriously don’t worry, people are totally understanding if you are worried about your paint flaking or come on them, and a lot of people are really appreciative to it if you are aware of it.

Stay safe my little gems.

also: i’m 80% sure the companies that sell the weird grey colored body suits that people use instead of paint could/would have some in appropriate gem colors. want nails on your fingers to look realistic?

you guessed it: homestuck tutorials.
