growing fairly tired of hearing people say “come to australia, this wouldn’t happen here” because there are an extraordinary amount of indigenous australian individuals dying as a result of police brutality and ill police discretion while in custody every single week. saying “that would never happen here, only in America” in response is ill-informed and just plain wrong because it happens here multiple times a week and doesn’t even get covered by news stations. 6 indigenous australian youths have died in custody in the last 2 months and not one has been aired by a news station. stop saying that our country is any different. stop trying to deflect any negative feelings you may be harbouring by saying “it doesn’t happen here” because that is useless and isn’t helpful in getting justice for michael brown.
