please. keep leelah in your hearts. but don’t make her a martyr. mourn all the other trans girls who died because of injustice too but didn’t get a fraction of the attention. the girls who died because of violence. or because they were pushed to it. the girls who were denied proper care because of how they presented. the girls who were abandoned.

don’t let any of their deaths be in vain

she left a ten paragraph suicide note where she talked extensively about how it was her parents’ fault for the way they dealt with her dysphoria and then a separate post where she writes to the people in her life and the line to her parents is “Mom and Dad: Fuck you. You can’t just control other people like that.” and yet her mom goes on social media and says her son was out walking and was accidentally hit by a truck

Do not share news articles where Leelah Alcorn is misgendered.
If you cannot find one where she is not misgendered, share a tumblr post. Share the link to her blog. Make a post and share it. But do not be active in her misgendering.

[DECEMBER 4, 2014] Police were investigating the death of a 21-year-old transgender woman who was gunned down while pounding on the front door of a Compton home seeking help.

Deshawnda Sanchez was shot around 4 a.m. Wednesday on the porch of a home near Wilton Place and 62nd Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“She was definitely at that door pounding on that door seeking help,” LAPD Detective Christopher Barling said.

The occupant of the home came outside after hearing multiple gunshots but it was too late.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured part of the incident. Police were not releasing the video which apparently showed someone pulling up to the house in a vehicle, getting out and running up to the porch. The figure could then be seen running back to the vehicle and driving away, police said.

“The footage, it was heartbreaking,” said Diana Williams, the victim’s sister

Detectives believe Sanchez was running away from a robber when she was shot, but said they were not ruling anything out.

“Deshawnda is a transgender female. At this point we cannot say it’s a hate crime but we have not ruled out that as being a possibility,” Barling said. [source]

This is so tragic. My heart goes out to her and those she loved. I hope Deshawnda gets the justice she deserves. ‪#‎TransLivesMatter‬ ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬
