Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.

What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?

  • Absolutely get rid of all AR-15′s and the like.
  • Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
  • Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driver’s license:
    • permit to learn
    • includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
    • if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
  • 30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
  • Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you don’t gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
  • A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
  • Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
  • No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
  • If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
  • If you’re a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
  • If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
  • This doesn’t cover everything but I think it’s a good place to start.

Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?

I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.

URGENT: STRAIGHT MALE ALLIES NEEDED TO SHUT DOWN LEGAL RAPE “INTERNATIONAL MEETING”

kaagazkalam:

This coming Saturday, February 6, at 8pm local time, followers of “Roosh V”- noted sexist, racist, homophobic, and overall horrible monster (not a human being)- will be holding secret meetings to rally for rape to be legalized. You didn’t read this wrong THEY WANT RAPE TO BE LEGALIZED.

This shit is dangerous af, and as they have barred anyone who isn’t male or straight, so we need all our white male allies to gather and shut this shit down. If you are a straight man of colour, please be careful. Even though the website says the meeting is for straight men of all races, the Roosh V following has also been known to be very racist and xenophobic.

Here is how the meeting will take place, as according to their website (I’m not going to link it because it does not deserve any hits, but all the info here is authentic- you may google and see for yourself):

We will have 165 meetings in 43 countries for our international meetup day on February 6, 2016 at 8PM local time. Hosts have been instructed to wait at the meeting point from 8:00-8:20pm before moving on to the final location. If you arrive at the meeting point at 8:21pm, you will miss the meetup. Arriving on time within the window is absolutely paramount.

To identify your fellow tribesmen, ask the following question to a man you suspect is there for the meetup: “Do you know where I can find a pet shop?” If you are asked this question, answer in the affirmative: “Yes, it’s right here.” You can then introduce yourself and get details about where to proceed at 8:20. If you ask someone for the pet shop and they appear confused or actually try to direct you to a real pet shop, they’re not there for the meetup.

If you are a woman, DO NOT GO, your safety is at risk. Roosh V has made it very apparent that your presence might be met with violence.

I won’t be able to attend a shut down (obvs- brown gay turban guy), but we need to shut this down ASAP. So to all my white brothers who identify as allies, now is your time to stand up and act.

I will be calling the RCMP and reporting this, make sure you report this to your local police as well.

Here is a list of all the locations where these men will come together (Roosh V himself will be at the Washington DC location):

This bullshit MUST be shut down.

this is the 14th fucking day of 2016, and look what has already happened

merrylinmonroe:

so, look. the capital city of my country just got kamikaze bombed today. jakarta, indonesia. i live a few hours from there. you know what got bombed? a mall. but the terrorists didn’t just target the entire mall, they specifically targeted American shops. McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks. right after, the terrorists started shooting the police and citizens. The officials speculated that it was ISIS. but you know what?

there is no #prayforjakarta trending in twitter. do you know how my people responded right after the bombs and the shootings? the workers continued working. the drivers continued driving. the cooks continued cooking. we know that this is a terrible and sad event, yet we do not want to remain in the past and retaliate against those who did against us. when paris got bombed, they got global support and coverage. all the first-world countries encouraged paris to bomb syria right back. and they did. obviously, i’m not speaking against paris and the people at all, but i’m just saying that indonesia, a muslim country, got terrorized by ISIS, and even without support of acknowledgement, we managed to mourn and move forward. just that. none of us blamed america (since they specifically targeted american-brand shops), nor syria, since we know that ISIS is NOT syria, which many, many people seem to have forgotten. we blame ISIS. we do not want to blame those who did nothing to us. i myself am catholic, and yet i do not hate any of my muslim friends and fellow citizens.

i just find it odd that when a first-world white city was bombed, everyone freaked out and told them to bomb syria right back, and yet when a muslim country is bombed, nobody seems to care.

why is #prayforsyria not trending? why is #prayforjakarta not trending? why is it that when ISIS terrorize muslim countries, everyone seems to turn blind?

and hey, i’m not going to apologize for my bad english.

More tidbits I’ve found while researching

  • tumblr has a sad-boner for the burning of the library of alexandria
  • which was not actually one burning but several
  • and while the Library of Alexandria was an immense historical and national treasure, a lot of ppl tend to forget about the other book and library burnings that occurred in antiquity
  • Places like the library of Nalanda, in India, which contained an elaborate classification system to hold what was then seen as the largest collection of Buddhist literature
  • and the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, which contained Greek and Arabic works on mathematics and astronomy to zoology and cartography
  • and more recently, the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (no, that does not mean sexual witchcraft) which was burned by the Nazis b/c the majority of tomes dealt with same sex relationships and gay rights and acceptance.
  • and omg, this makes me so mad. The Libraries of Fisheries and Oceans in Canada has all its collection thrown away in an attempt to save taxpayer money and on the hope that all of its material was digitized. Only 5 to 6% was.
  • and the Saeh library in Lebanon, which was burnt b/c of terrorism.
  • Book burnings are happening right now, y’all.

Not to mention how the Spanish systematically destroyed the entire literary output of whole societies in Mesoamerica, to the point where we only have a handful of their codices today

We should talk, too, about the heroism of those trying to save books from violence, not least because the deliberate destruction of cultural artifacts is evidence of genocide. A few libraries not mentioned above:

  • The National Library of Bosnia, located in Sarajevo, which was destroyed in August of 1992 by Serb forces. It was targeted with incendiary shells, and over a million books testifying to Bosnia’s multicultural history were lost in the resulting fire. Aida Buturović, a young librarian, was killed by sniper fire while trying to carry books from the burning building. The Oriental Institute, housing the majority of Sarajevo’s Islamic manuscripts, was destroyed that May, but it wasn’t the first library burnt in Sarajevo: during World War II, the Nazis decimated the collection of La Benevolencija, one of the oldest Jewish organizations in the city.
  • The Ahmed Baba Institute in Timbuktu, which was burned in January 2013 by Tuareg rebel forces fleeing the city, who had been using the library as a barracks. The fire destroyed 4,000 manuscripts – but Abdel Kader Haïdara, a librarian, saved 400,000 more from libraries all over the city by smuggling them out in the preceding months. He had help, and the ‘book rustlers’ of Mali – who risked their lives to do it – saved 800 years of West African history.

And let us not forget Alia Muhammad Baker, the head librarian of Al Basrah Central Library, who risked her life to save the books when no one else in the Iraqi government gave a damn.  By the time the invading US and UK forces had blown the building, she and her book-smuggling-food-service-cadre had taken almost ¾ of the books over the seven foot perimeter fence and into a nearby restaurant.  Except, of course, for the books about Saddam Hussein.  Those, they left.

“In the Koran, the first thing God said to Muhammad was ‘Read,’ ” she said.

Every single Australian person who is outraged at the police (and entire societal) brutality against black people in the US that’s currently in the headlines needs to put the same amount of energy into learning about the VERY SAME brutality that’s used here in Australia to oppress Indigenous Australians.

Every single Australian, whether in Australia or overseas, born in Australia or born overseas, needs to put the onus on themselves to EDUCATE, INFORM and TALK ABOUT the institutional violence black Australians face.

For a failure to signal, you’re doing all this. You’re doing all this for a
failure to signal.

Cop:
Get over there. [Cop points her over to the sidewalk, while pointing his taser
at her.]

SB:
Right. Yeah. Let’s take this to court. [Sandra continues to walk toward the
sidewalk.] Let’s do this for a failure to signal. Yep, for a failure to signal.
[Sandra is led out of the view of the dashcam video.]

Cop:
Get off the phone.

SB:
I’m not on the phone. I have a right to record-

Cop:
Put your phone down.

SB:
This is my property.

Cop:
Put your phone down.

SB:
Sir?

Cop:
Put your phone down. Right now! Put your phone down.

SB:
[Sandra puts her phone down on the trunk of her car.] For a fucking failure to
signal, my goodness.

Cop:
Come over here!

SB:
Y’all are interesting. You feelin’ good about this whole thing?

Cop:
Stand right here.

SB:
You feelin’ good about yourself? For my failure to signal, you feel real good
about yourself, don’t you?

Cop:
Turn around.

SB:

Cop:

SB:

Cop:

SB:
Why am I being arrested? Why can’t you tell me that part?

Cop:
I’m giving you a lawful order. Turn around.

SB:
Why will you not tell me what’s going on?

Cop:
You are not compliant.

SB:
I’m not compliant ‘cause you just pulled me outta my car.

Cop:
Turn around!!

SB:
Are you fucking kidding me? This is some bullshit.

Cop:
Put your hands behind your back.

Cop:

Cop:
[Goes around the car and closes the front door. Walks back off screen to where
Sandra is on the sidewalk.] Come read right over here. [He stands by the trunk
of the car and shows her the written warning.] This right here says a warning.
YOU started creating a problem. [Cop walks out of shot, toward Sandra.]

SB:
You asked me what was wrong!

Cop:
Do you have anything in your purse that’s illegal?

SB:

Cop
2: No, you are.

Cop:

Slammed me into the ground and everything.
Everything. I hope y’all feel good.

Remember when we kept telling y’all, white tumblr, that “know your rights” and all those videos of y’all talking to cops however you please was only for y’all? That it was white privilege? Yeah.

I just read that whole thing without even breathing

This was planned. This was planned from the jump, I have no illusions
